Glendale has a thriving arts and culture scene.  There are historic areas and world-class museums.   There is the ARIZONA DOLL & TOY MUSEUM and MUSICAL INSTRUMENT MUSEUM.  There is the WEST VALLEY SYMPHONY and the ARIZONA BROADWAY THEATRE.  Not to mention the XERISCAPE BOTANICAL GARDEN and the DESERT BOTANICAL GARDEN.  There is simply so much to do in this wonderful area.

Oh and by the way, did you know the Historic Downtown has been named by USA Today and Sunset Magazine as one of the country’s ten best places for shopping.

Glendale Elementary School District (GESD) provides educational services to more than 10,500 students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade in 18 schools and one alternative program. The District’s has roughly 1,500 employees and their main focus is catering and meeting the needs of the student body!

Glendale High School District – Glendale Union High School District serves the communities of Phoenix and Glendale and encompasses 60 square miles. There are 9 high schools, grades 9-12, enrolling 16,800 students.

There is so much information available for Hiking.  The Visit Glendale website provides a ton of information including safety precautions.  Please review all information if you plan on spending a few hours or an entire day hiking.

Biking is another fabulous way to spend the day here.   The most popular spots for biking are:

ps did you know about Glendale’s Bikeways and Bicycle Program?  Glendale supports a Bicycle Program each year to encourage its residents to ride bikes.  Bikes are inexpensive to operate, it’s a great mode of transportation, it helps contribute to clean air, and IT’S GREAT EXERCISE!

Shopping in Glendale

They do love their shopping here in Glendale.  There are quite a few options for shopping but I’ll stick to some of the favorites!

Historic Downtown Glendale is not to be missed.  It’s really 2 neighborhoods – Historic Catlin Court and Old Towne.  There are famous antique stores and a variety of places to eat.   The 2 neighborhoods take up nearly 10 square blocks.  But don’t be scared.  You can easily spend a day there walking around and you will see much of it.  It’s totally worth it to see the array of unique and eclectic local shops!

Westgate Entertainment District is up next  This is one of the largest, urban developments in North America.  When it’s finished it will include up to eight million square feet of shopping, entertainment, dining, parks, office space, hotels, and residential units. Westgate Entertainment District is also the site of Gila River Arena, home to the NHL Arizona Coyotes and State Farm Stadium.

Arrowhead Towne Center, For the most part, this is your standard “mall concept”.  There are over  170  retailers and restaurants and the 4 anchors are: Dillards, Dick’s Sporting Goods, JCPenney and Macy’s.
